October has set out to be a very busy month at The Artisan Food Trail. We visited the Thame Food Festival for the first time and met up with producers on the trail. Everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time in the glorious sunshine and we’d definitely recommend adding it to your diaries for next year if you’ve never been. Please welcome this month to The Artisan Food Trail, The Kandula Tea Company. A small independent tea company based in Cambridgeshire with some of the nicest teas we’ve tasted. This month we welcome Priya of DietitianUK back as we talk about chillies and we also welcome our new expert and AFT member, Sarah Daniels of The Red Cat Partnership as we ask her about what you need to know about hygiene when starting a food business from home. There’s two new recipes for you and a classic torte from Fudge Kitchen and extended profiles of Simply Ice Cream and Yare Valley Oils, plus loads more online on our website and blog.

Starting a food business from home - what you need to know about hygiene.
We get asked for help on this all the time, so we thought it time to ask someone that’s qualified to answer this question. We got the lowdown from our newest expert, the director of The Red Cat Partnership and Artisan Food Trail member, Sarah Daniels, about starting a food business from home, which proved to be very useful and surprisingly straightforward.

Sarah Daniels is director of The Red Cat Partnership a health and safety consultancy based in Norwich. Courses are available covering food safety with a team of chartered environmental health practitioners.

The Spice of Life: The Health benefits of Chilli.
We eat a fair few chillies so were wondering whether they were doing us any good – well they are part of your five a day, but what else are they good for? There are numerous articles in the press attributing various health benefits associated with the eating of chillies, but just how much of it is based on actual scientific fact?
Who better to ask than Priya.

Ever since settling beside the Norfolk Broads in the early 1900’s the Mack family have been farming the rich soil of the Yare Valley. Oilseed rape has been grown across their fields for many years and the crop has become an important part of our farming along with potatoes, sugar beet and cereals.

This is probably the easiest cheesecake you'll ever make, and it is very tasty too. There's no need to put the oven on as the cheesecake is completely no-bake.

Following on the ’no bake’ theme, you may also enjoy this gooey, rich and totally indulgent torte from Fudge Kitchen.
